An insight on what to expect when you book a CPC course with us.
The course is presented by Paul Jones. A qualified CPC Instructor as of 2024.
With over 40 years of experience and knowledge within the Transport and Haulage Industry.
A class one LGV driver since July 1989. Paul’s training was done at Gordon Springates at Detling Hill near Maidstone in Kent. On a sunny Friday afternoon in Gillingham in Kent at his first attempt Paul passed his test. Paul remembers that 6 days training and the day of the test came to the grand total of £525. At the age of just 22 years of age this young man was the holder of a class one LGV licence. He remembers companies in the late 80’s were very reluctant to employ young drivers under the age of 25 due to insurance purposes. Paul remembers spending the first year of holding an LGV licence still driving 7.5 ton vehicles doing multi drop deliveries. Paul’s employer at the time, a gentleman by the name of John Bartram, bought two 17 ton vehicles for both Paul and another driver named Jason to gain some experience. Paul said it was a gesture that he will never forget.
Paul’s first position as a class one driver came late in the year of 1990. Working for a vehicle hire and contracts company called Transfleet in Croydon. Delivering hire vehicles to customers. Driving a wide range of vehicles he recalls his excitement when a company hired a tractor unit and would drive it around for an extra 30 mins to gain the experience of a manual gear box of a DAF 95. Throughout the years Paul has driven a huge wide of vehicles. 8 wheeler grabs, hi-abs, brick grabs, Refrigerated vehicles and has even had a spell as an ADR driver collecting fuel from Kingsbury and delivering it to haulage companies and petrol stations.
Paul has a good sense of humour and having experienced many CPC modules. He feels he has got what it takes for drivers to enjoy their 7 hours of a CPC course. Paul’s quote is “everybody will be treated as a driver and not a pupil”, “everybody will be included in the day’s events and hopefully will leave us with a smile on their face”.
